Help Farmers Help the Environment

The week of September 10, the House of representatives will vote on the ten-year, $170 billion Farm Bill that could severely hurt the environment. The House Agriculture committee Farm Bill would: Threaten a tenth of the country’s remaining wetlands; subsidize polluting technologies drastically; and deny funding and aid to most farmers seeking federal help to protect the environment. An amendment to alleviate some of these most damaging provisions has been offered. The amendment will boost federal funds to preserve farm ranch, and forest lands from sprawling development; improve water quality; protect food and drinking water supplies; and restore habitat for wildlife!
