Israeli Military Intensifying its Assault on Peace Workers in Palestine

Israeli soldiers arresting a European peace activist in Beit Sahour, near Beithlehem - 10/05/03

In an effort to scare witnesses away so they can get on with the genocide of Palestinians, as of Thursday, May 8, the Israeli military began obliging foreigners entering the Gaza Strip, Occupied Palestine to sign waivers absolving the army from responsibility if it shoots them. Visitors must also declare that they are not peace activists. The move came hours before an autopsy on James Miller - the British cameraman killed in a Gaza refugee camp - confirmed that he was almost certainly killed by an Israeli soldier, despite the army's assertions to the contrary.

This document demands signature of all international groups working within the Gaza Strip and any internationals attempting to enter the Gaza Strip. In addition to stipulations of not holding the Israeli Government responsible for the death of internationals, the declaration specifically states that the individual signing can have no connection to the International Solidarity Movement (ISM).

"Why of course the people don't want war … But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship … voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

The ISM, a Palestinian led non-violent group which attempts to provide protection to the Palestinian people and to enable them to non-violently resist the Israeli military occupation of Palestine, has recently come under attack from the Israeli Government and Army. This attack, including the targeting of ISM volunteers that left one dead, one comatose and one severely injured, and now this new declaration, are all aimed at discrediting and inhibiting the peace work of the ISM. Faith FippingerHuman shield returns from Iraq

It's not the whistle of the missiles or the boom of endless explosions that Faith Fippinger remembers most from her three months as a human shield in Iraq. It's the week she spent working in a Baghdad hospital that could haunt her forever.

"I may never stop crying again for the rest of my life," said Fippinger, 62, at her Sarasota home Wednesday.

The U.S. regime is questioning Faith, and other Human Shield volunteers from the U.S., to see if they can be done for treason. "The land of the free."

Polls taken in the U.S. in the 6 months leading up to the invasion of Iraq indicated that of those polled 60-70% feared Saddam would attack the U.S.

A poll taken in early January 2003, in the U.S., indicated that two thirds of respondents thought they had a good grasp of the issues surrounding the Iraqi crisis. However, half of those surveyed said one or more of the Sept. 11 terrorist hijackers were Iraqi citizens.

A poll taken by Fox News in the U.S. on January 31 showed that 81% of respondents believed Saddam Hussein (an enemy of Osama bin Laden) has ties to the Al Qaeda terrorist group.

Israel's Allegations about Peace Activists are Deliberate Falsification

A British journalist has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers as he filmed a documentary in a refugee area in Gaza. The man suffered fatal injuries after an Israeli armoured vehicle opened fire, the Israeli military said.

The victim - who had been filming house demolitions in the Occupied Territories - was understood to have been hit in the neck. Another Briton, who also said he was a journalist, said he and the victim and two colleagues had been filming and waving a white flag as they moved towards the tank when it fired the shots.

On Friday, the Israeli foreign ministry announced plans to crack down on international Human Shield volunteers who have attempted to prevent demolitions. They started by detaining a member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) in Rafah.

Israelis shoot dead British journalist - The Age

In 1996, Madeleine Albright, then the US secretary of state, was asked on national television what she felt about the fact that 500,000 Iraqi children had died as a result of US economic sanctions.

She replied that it was ‘a very hard choice,’ but that, all things considered, ‘we think the price is worth it.’
