Before the TJP Human Shield Action to Iraq I was regularly asked "what will you do once you get there?" If nothing else I said, "I will express my humanity by simply being there."

It is lost on many but I can say from experience that it does mean something to simply show up and see for ourselves what is going on "over there." Unlike the media or subcontractors that are just their for their job, a person who goes to Iraq because they care and want something better are very much appreciated and respected. On a personal level, my journeys are like food for the soul, they make looking in the mirror without shame possible.

If nothing else it is a powerful and I would argue necessary act for Westerner's to visit the lands our nations are violating. I see this as a critical act that can effectively negate the ludicrous propaganda that intends to keep different segments of the masses divided and hostile towards each other.
