The situation in Iraq is proven desperate from the moment you cross the Jordanian border. 'Security' is virtually nil as well and damaged power lines by the dozens greet you on the main road to Baghdad. The towers have been pulled down and the wire stolen for the resale value. Of course the electricity being shut down due to the invasion made this all the more possible.
