A place to call home; the Baghdad orphanage.

It is hard for many in the West to imagine these living conditions to be adequate for children but the hard fact is that these children are turned away from the mainstream NGO programs intended to help children. These kids are the forgotten ones. Their daily life includes the knawing temptation to escape their cruel existence with the cheap high obtained from sniffing glue or other readily available drugs.

With street life also comes violence and most all of these kids are scarred all over by knife and razor blade wounds. In this environment the weak are soon revealed which leads to more persecution from other unstable, high and often very angry kids.

And there is no escaping that we in the West through our complicity in the impoverishment of the world have a very direct role in the life these kids endure.
